About the Fund
The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund (‘the Fund') is an independent grant-giving charity established in September 1997 to continue the Princess' humanitarian work in the UK and overseas.
Our vision is a world in which the rights of the disadvantaged are respected. By giving grants to organisations, championing charitable causes, advocacy, campaigning and awareness-raising, we are working to secure sustainable improvements in the lives of the most disadvantaged people in the UK and around the world.
Since 2007, we have focused our efforts and resources on achieving four goals:
- To ensure that palliative care is integrated into the care and treatment of people with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in sub-Saharan Africa.
- To ensure that refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK are treated with fairness, humanity and in accordance with international law.
- To promote fair treatment and better futures for the most vulnerable people in the criminal justice system.
- To promote the protection of civilians during and after conflict by bringing an end to the use of cluster munitions in warfare.
We aim to do more than just give grants, adding value in a range of ways to the money we give. For example, we:
- work collaboratively with other funders
- enter public policy debates ourselves to call for change
commission research to help underpin the policy change goals of our partners as well as our own.
